Scene One - The Cascade Apartments, Apartment 307; Donovan’s Apartment

“This place will look so amazing when we are done,” Victoria says as she places one of the pictures on the wall and tries to straighten it out. She turns and sees Donovan unpacking his belongings from another box to put out in his new apartment. While she is sad that he won’t be staying with her anymore, she is happy that it will have his own place because it means that he is making roots in Twin Peaks and she loves having her brother around.

“I hope so,” he tells her back as he takes out some coffee mugs. “I guess my box is for the kitchen.” He starts to walk over to the open kitchen and looks back at his sister while he places the mugs into a cupboard. “So where’s your personal security guard tonight?” he jokes to her, referring to Robbie. Donovan still thinks that Victoria is beginning to have a small crush on the police officer, which is fine, he just doesn’t want to see his sister get hurt as Robbie is a married man.

Victoria quickly turns to him and gives him a funny look. “If you mean Robbie, then I gave him the night off. It’s Halloween! I told him to take his daughter out trick or treating with his wife. Plus, we all know I’m safe. I’m with my brother!”

Donovan grins at her knowing that he’s pushing her buttons playfully. “Well that was nice of you,” he replies. “You having some space from him is probably a good thing.”

Victoria laughs at him and throws some bubble wrap in his direction. “For the last time Donovan, I do not have a crush on Robbie!”

Donovan blushes slightly as he recalls he finally said the words out loud to Trenyce the other day, that he is gay. He is attracted to Robbie in the sense that he’s a good looking male, but knowing that nothing would ever happen there. He looks at Victoria and wonders if he could come out to her, after all Trenyce was so very understanding and accepting of who he is.

“I understand why would you be attracted to him. Robbie is a very good looking guy,” Donovan says trying to act like it’s no big deal of the words coming out of his mouth, but also hoping that she picks up on what he is saying.

Victoria holds a vase that she was going to put on the mantel but stops and looks at Donovan. She arches her eyebrow and then smiles at her brother. “Donovan? Are you trying to tell me something?”

Donovan sighs and walks over to his sister. “Look, I shouldn’t have said anything. Just forget it, okay?”

“No, I won’t forget it,” she replies to him as she grabs his hand. “I love you for who you are. Nothing will change that.”

Donovan hugs his sister, “Thanks.”

“Well, do you have to say something?” she giggles as they exit their embrace.

“I guess you figured it out. I am gay,” he tells her slowly, his heart dropping as he waits for her reaction.

She hugs him again. “I must say I’m surprised, but I’m glad you feel like you can trust me and talk to me about it. Nothing will change between us!”

“Good, cause I still need help with all of these boxes!” he laughs pointing at all the unpacking they have to still do, relieved that she is so understanding of who he really is.

Scene Two - The Calimo House; Robbie, Leah & Paige’s Home

“Come on sweetie,” Leah tells Paige holding her hand as they walk out of the house. Leah looks around the neighbourhood and sees many families out trick or treating already. She looks down at her young daughter, who is dressed in a Tinkerbell costume, feeling proud of her daughter and family. “Robbie did you grab the camera?” she asks as she turns around to see her husband coming out of the door holding the camera.

“Got it babe,” he smiles at her as he locks the door and comes to join them. “I can’t believe how cute she looks in her costume.”

“I’m just glad we had the warm spell this week,” Leah replies to her husband as they start to walk to the house next to them. “Too much snow and no one would have been able to see her costume!”

“This is nice,” he tells Leah as they approach the walk way up to the next house. “Family time. We haven’t had much of it lately. Here, I’ll take her up to this house.”

Leah watches as her husband walks up to the front door with Paige in his arms. He tries to get Paige to say “Trick or Treat”, but she covers her face with her hands instead. The woman at he door gives Paige a piece of candy and they return to Leah. “I can’t believe she didn’t want to say the words!” Leah giggles as she takes Paige from Robbie’s arms. “Remember how we practiced saying trick or treat?”

“You two look so beautiful together,” he notes to his wife as they start to walk to the next house on the block.

“You are right, it has been too long since we’ve had family time,” Leah tells him grabbing his hand and holding it. It’s moments like this that make her realize why she does everything she does; to protect her family, to protect moments like this. “We’ve both been working so much lately, it’s easy to lose track of what’s important.”

“I know,” he says back to her. “I’m glad that Victoria is with Donovan tonight. I didn’t want to miss the first year we got to take Paige out trick or treating.”

“Nothing will come between our family Robbie. I promise you that,” she says as she leans in for a kiss before she starts to walk up to the next house with Paige. As Leah walks, she knows that she has to talk to Robin about who else knows that Jeff is really Paige’s biological father. She can not let her secret come out; not now, not ever.

Across the road, Chris and Trenyce walk with Andrew, who is dressed as Spider man. Chris looks in the bag of candy and then looks over at Trenyce, “Little man is cleaning up tonight!”

Trenyce laughs and pulls Andrew back as he starts to rush away from them. “He clearly already has enough energy,” she says back to Chris with a smile. Trenyce looks at the man who fathered her child and is amazed at how far they have come together. She used to detest him for his relationship with her mother and she tried to get some kind of revenge on him. To be in a place where they can laugh and spend time together with Andrew is amazing in to her. She knows that deep down Daisy and Chris will probably end up back together at some point, and she is okay with that. She wants her Aunt to be happy and she feels bad that she is partly responsible for their marriage ending in the first place. She just wants to ensure that he won’t hurt Daisy again.

“Should we call it a night?” Chris asks to her, noting that Andrew already has a lot of candy.

“Yea, it’s probably a good idea. I don’t want him to get too much candy. He’s already on a sugar high!”

“I want candy!” Andrew squeals to them as Chris picks up his son.

He laughs, “Maybe you can have one lollipop on the car ride home? How about that buddy?”

“Lollipop!” Andrew says back to his parents.

“This was a good idea,” Trenyce tells Chris as they arrive at the car and Chris opens the back door to put Andrew inside. “The three of us going trick or treating.”

“Yea, it was a good time Trenyce. Thanks for the suggestion. It’s good that Andrew sees his parents getting along.”

“That wasn’t always the case,” Trenyce winks back over to him. “Seriously, I agree that it’s good that we can get along for him. He needs that in his life.”

“All ready to go!” Chris explains as he finishes putting Andrew’s seat belt on and closing the door.

“I do have to ask you one favour though,” Trenyce tells him as she walks over to the passenger side of the car.

Chris arches his eyebrow an looks over at her. “What’s that?”

“I know that you and Daisy are growing closer again,” she admits to him, as he thinks back to the kiss that he and Daisy shared recently. “Just make sure you don’t hurt her again, okay? She’s been through so much already.”

“I’m aware of that Trenyce,” Chris replies to her. “I have no intentions of hurting her.”

“Good,” Trenyce tells him back. “Now that we’re on the same page, let’s get this guy home!”

Up a few blocks in the same neighbourhood, Helen holds Dawn’s hand as they trick or treat. Helen was wondering if she should cancel taking her daughter out after they learned that Adam is paralyzed but being this is the first Halloween that she has her daughter back she decided to go out with her. Looking at Dawn, who is dressed as a Ladybug, she can’t help but feel so happy and so much love for her child. The last year of their lives have been absolute hell, but the shining moment has been getting Dawn back. That drove her decision to bring Dawn out for Halloween.

She looks over her shoulder and sees Shane walking behind her. She smiles at his sight. She recalls asking him to come out with her tonight since Adam is still in the hospital and he did help raise Dawn for the first year and half of her life. She wanted someone to come with her tonight, and Shane seemed like the natural choice. “Are you having fun?” she asks him as he looks into the bag of candy.

He pulls out a chocolate bar and opens it, “Of course! How could I not be? Free candy and spending time with Dawn? Nothing gets better than this.”

“Well, thank you again for agreeing to come with us,” she replies to him. “After everything we’ve been through lately, I didn’t want to be alone.”

“That’s understandable. Just remember that you’re never alone Helen, you have a lot of people that care for you and are here for you.”

“Thanks Shane,” she smiles back to him. “It’s nice having a good friend like you.”

“Just know that Adam is in for a long hard fight in front of him, so you can lean on me whenever you need to.”

“I will keep that in mind,” she says. “Do you think, honestly, that he will be able to walk again?”

Shane sighs and looks down for a moment. He has seen this happen many times in his career as a doctor and the odds are not very good. He wonders if he should be honest with Helen or try to make her feel better with some good news.

“You’re not saying anything,” she continues to say to him as she grabs his hand. “Just be honest with me, okay?”

Shane looks at their locked hands and moves his eyes into hers. “Honestly, I haven’t seen many cases like this where they regain the ability to walk again Helen. That being said, every case is different and you shouldn’t give up hope.”

Helen turns and looks at Dawn, who is walking a few steps in front of them. She gets water in her eyes and looks back at Shane, “She deserves a father that can do things with her. Not that Adam can’t be there for her in a wheel chair, but it’s different.”

“I know,” he replies to her, squeezing her hand a little. “Just try to stay positive. Everything will work out the way it should, you’ll see.”

Scene Three - Twin Peaks General Hospital; Adam’s Room

Adam lays in the hospital bed and tries not to replay the words coming out of Shane’s mouth from the previous day. He’s paralyzed and may never walk again; he doesn’t know how to stop thinking about those words. He looks down at his legs and tries to move them, but he is unable. He tries again and clinches his fists together as he tries to move his legs. Again, nothing happens. Adam falls back into the hospital bed and punches his fists into the bed. “Damn it,” he yells in frustration, hating the fact that he can’t do what everyone seemingly takes for granted.

He turns his head when he hears his bedroom door open. He sees Casey standing at the doorway. “Are you okay? I thought I heard you talking from outside the room?” Casey asks his brother in law as he comes into the room.

Adam sighs and looks over at the man that is still a stranger to him. “I’m just frustrated! I want to be able to walk again! I want to use my legs! I should be out there with my daughter tonight taking her trick or treating!”

Casey takes a deep breath and moves closer to Adam, “I don’t know what to say man. I wish there was something I could say or do that would make this go away.”

“That’s the problem, there’s nothing no one can say or do to make this go away.”

“Its not over, you know?” Casey tells him, trying to be positive for him. “If you give up and think the world is over, it will be. There’ll be a lot of hard work but you can walk again. It just may take some time.”

Adam sighs and looks at Casey knowing that he’s right. “It just sucks that I will miss so much of my daughter’s life, you know? I’ve already missed out on so much.”

“Don’t think about it like that,” Casey continues to try to be positive. “You know that Helen will bring Dawn to see you as often as possible. And when you do walk again Adam, you’ll be better than ever.”

Adam looks at Casey, “Thanks Casey,” he says back to him. “I know that we don’t know each other that well, but I do appreciate you being here for Helen while I was in the coma.”

“I’ve been searching for her for awhile,” Casey admits to him. “I had no idea where she went. It’s like she disappeared. After I found her and she told me about her accident that caused her to lose her memory it made more sense to me, you know? I’m just happy to be back.”

“Well like I said, thanks for being there for Helen. She’s been through so much this past year.”

Casey nods, “She’s strong though Adam. She’s been amazing through out this entire situation.”

“Good, I worry about her.”

“No need, especially with me being here,” Casey tells his brother in law as a slight grin comes across his face. “I will take good care of my sister.”

Scene Four - Wild Night

The annual Halloween party at the club is in full swing. Patrons have arrived in full costume and the place is buzzing with energy. Cory is upstairs in his office making sure everything runs smoothly at his club, but he never makes appearances in the club when it gets this busy. He prefers to let his staff do there thing and ensure everyone has a good time.

Madeline waits in the small line at the bar for another drink. She came out with Reese tonight to get out of the house. She has been waiting to hear back from Robin regarding her decision about leaving Cory in-exchange for her silence with knowing Paige’s true paternity. She looks back at Reese, who waves at her before she gets her turn. “I’ll have a cosmo, please,” she tells the bartender as she waits for her martini to arrive.

Once she gets her drink, she starts to walk back over to her table. She stops in her tracks when Robin, who is not in costume, approaches her. “We need to talk,” Robin tells her as she grabs Madeline’s arm and takes her to the far back corner of the club.

“What the hell are you doing?” Madeline asks as her cosmo spills all over her arm.

Robin glares at her rival, “I want to know how you found out that Paige is Jeff’s daughter and not Robbie’s.”

Madeline gets a slight grin on her face knowing that Robin must have got the truth from Leah. “It doesn’t matter how I found out. Are you going to leave Cory so I won’t say anything?”

“I have filed for divorce,” Robin tells a shocked Madeline. “I will not let you ruin my family. But you should know that Cory already suspects something more is going on. He won’t go running back to you. He will fight for me.”

“We’ll see about that,” Madeline replies to her. “I’m surprised you acted to so quickly. I’m impressed. But you don’t need to worry about Cory any longer. I’ll make sure he’s taken care of.”

Madeline is about to walk away when Robin grabs her arm and spins her around, “And when Cory leaves you, again, which he will, I will go back to my husband.”

Madeline forces her arm out of Robin’s grasp “We’ll see about that,” she replies back before she walks away from her quickly. She wants to go wash her arm, then head upstairs to see Cory.

“Can you try to have some fun tonight? It’s good for you to let loose once in awhile,” Will tells Eva as they stand on the dance floor and enjoy the music.

“I don’t even know what kind of music this is!” Eva smiles to Will, not recognizing the song, or really caring for the music playing. While she enjoys Will’s company, she can tell that sometimes the age difference is clear.

“It’s a Rihanna song,” Will tells her.

“So why the hell is she singing about S&M? That’s disgusting!” Eva laughs as she pulls Will off the dance floor.

From the back corner, a mysterious figure dressed in all black including a black ski mask, watches there every move.

Off the dance floor, Will looks into Eva’s eyes. He leans in and gives her a kiss on the lips. “What was that for?” she asks as their lips part.

“I just want to tell you that I’ve fallen in love with you Eva and I’m sorry that we haven’t been seeing eye to eye lately. I just want what’s best for you because I care so much,” he tells her as he still looking into her eyes.

She hugs him and feels his heart beat in his chest, “I love you too Will. Just know that I care very much and I’m just trying to do what’s best for everyone, okay?”

“I know,” he says back to her as they exit their hug and lock eyes. “Let’s forget that tonight and have a good time.”

“I’m game. You want another drink?”

“I’d love one!”

As they walk hand in hand to the bar, the mysterious figure continues to watch their every move.

“I can’t believe you dragged me to a Halloween party at a night club,” Daisy tells Vinny as she admires his bull fighter costume. She doesn’t mind going out with some friends, but it’s been a long time since she was a night club when it was this full of young people drinking their faces off.

Vinny laughs at Daisy, “You need to have some fun once in awhile, I thought this would be a good way for you to relieve some stress. Plus, you look so great as a French maid!” he notes of her short dress and feather duster.

“I feel so exposed!” she admits to him knowing that she usually doesn’t dress up like this, or at least show so much skin.

“It’ll be good for your publicity. No one wants a stuffy old mayor!”

“I’m not stuffy or old!” Daisy laughs at him as she rubs the feather duster in his face. “Besides, why do you think I am stressed?”

Vinny sighs and looks at her. “The entire misunderstanding that I created thinking something was going on with Greta and Chris couldn’t have been easy for you to hear. I’m sorry again.”

“Don’t worry about it,” she tells him. “I actually am having a good time here. Thanks for bringing me out,” she smiles at him.

Vinny looks at her and smiles back. He knows that he’s dangerously close to falling head over heels for his boss, but he doesn’t want to cross that line. He’s just getting used to working full time and being useful in society. Plus, he has a good friend in Daisy, something that he doesn’t have many of. Still, when he sees her smile, his heart starts to melt a little. He shakes his head knowing that he will have to try to forget about Daisy; she will never want him in that way.

***

Andy looks around the club as he’s looking for a group of his friends from work that he decided to go to the party with. He stepped away for a moment to get another drink and now has seemingly lost the crowd. At first, he was sceptical about coming to the party as he doesn’t feel like he has much to celebrate these days as his relationship with JC is practically falling apart. He still can’t believe that JC lied to him for so long about being the one that leaked the story to the Sun about his affair with Reese. After he begged JC to stay in town and give their relationship another chance, he was sure that JC would leave Reese out of their relationship. Instead the opposite happened and he feels like they are back at square one in their relationship, if they even have one left. Andy has been living in Kim’s condo and hasn’t seen or spoken to JC in a couple of weeks now.

As he walks towards the dance floor, he feels someone tap his shoulder. He turns around and sees JC standing in front of him. “A tennis player, cute costume,” Andy tells JC as he notes JC’s short shorts and Nike top with a tennis racket in his other hand.

“Thanks,” JC smiles at him, wondering if Andy can finally give him an update on where they stand in their relationship. The last few weeks have been very hard on JC as he did think that they were going to be getting back together. “I like your costume too. What are you supposed to be?”

Andy laughs a little, “A washed up pop star,” Andy tells him, thinking his costume is actually pretty lame, but he didn’t really have much energy to put into his costume.

“Do you think we could talk? I haven’t seen you in a few weeks and then you said you needed time,” JC asks him quickly, hoping that they can resolve the issue before it continues to get out of hand.

“Sure JC,” Andy replies to him knowing that he has to tell his boyfriend something. He just isn’t sure what, just yet. They reach a corner of the club and Andy smiles to his boyfriend. “I don’t know what to say.”

“Me either,” JC admits to him. “I miss you. I love you. I want us to work but …”

“But?” Andy says back to him as their eyes lock.

“They are asking me to come to LA for that magazine position and I’m thinking of going,” JC admits to his boyfriend.

“Don’t let me hold you back JC,” Andy replies to him quickly. “I know what we had was great, but if we are both honest with each other it’s not going to work out. I don’t want to be the one that stops you from chasing your dreams. Go to LA.”

JC feels his eyes swell with water as he moves closer to Andy. They fall into a hug. “I’m so sorry,” JC tells him into his ear. “We could have been great together.:

“Don’t be sorry, we both did this. Some people are better friends than lovers,” Andy replies to him as they exit their hug.

JC nods his head and then leans in and gives him a quick kiss on the lips. “Good bye Andy.”

Andy watches as JC turns around and walks away from him. “Bye JC,” he says as he feels his heart sink, but also relieved that he knows where things stand.

***

Madeline walks up the stairs of the club to the second floor. She sees two doors, one says “washroom” on it and the other says “office”. She walks up to the office and opens the door. She sees Cory sitting at his desk looking at some order forms.

“Hey, I thought I’d find you up here,” she says as she enters the office. Cory looks up and smiles a little when he sees Madeline.

“Nice outfit? What’s her name again?”

“Little Boo Peep!” Madeline laughs at him.

“Have you lost your sheep?” Cory grins back at her. “What brings you up here? Not having fun downstairs?”

“No, I am. You throw a great party,” she tells him. “But I couldn’t stay away when I knew you were up here, probably all alone.”

“I’m working. I like being alone when I work. But I appreciate you stopping by.”

“I heard that Robin filed for divorce,” she quickly tells him. “I’m sorry.”

“Thanks,” Cory replies as he puts his head down. He doesn’t want to talk about the divorce. He still suspects that Liam Fitzpatrick has something to do with Robin’s sudden decision to end their marriage. He is determined to get to the bottom of it.

“Just know that I’m here for you Cory,” Madeline replies to him as she recalls how they shared a kiss recently at her office. “Anything you need, you know you can count on me.”

“I know,” he smiles at her as they lock eyes. “It would be easy for me to come over and kiss you right now, but I don’t want to rush into anything like we did before. I have to find out the truth and if it is really over, then I have to get over Robin.”

“That’s fair. You know where to find me though,” she tells him as she prepares to leave the office. Outside she feels butterflies in her stomach. “It’s happening. It really is happening,” she smiles to herself, thrilled that she will have the chance with Cory moving forward.

Next on One Day at a Time
- Shane has a question for Natasha
- Robbie finally questions Adam about his shooting
